So yesterday I played with paint bubbles. After mixing paint, water and dish soap, I blew bubbles in a cup and dragged paper and canvases over the bubbles. I used one of the pieces of paper to make a card. I added flowers which I first created using a stencil and medium. I filled them in with water colors. I was pretty pleased with this.
Adding this SimonsSays Wednesday Challenge - Showers/Flowers.
I saw something today and decided to try it! Paint and bubbles! My first batch was too watery so I tried again. This is such fun and would be great for kids!! This canvas is not even dry but I was excited to share.
I was gone for a little over 3 weeks and I could not believe how much catching up I had to do! I am still working my way through my list but i did spend time yesterday making thank you cards for happy mail I received.
I struggle with card ideas so love sketches like this one from Stickitdown
Here is my card
I created a messy background with new Distress Oxides. The flower is painted tissue paper.
I was at my daughter's for a few weeks - waiting for our granddaughter to arrive. She came one day before her due date and is an April Fool's baby. The 16 hours of labor followed by a C section was no joke. But happily Lauren Joelle made her way into the world at 7:51 pm weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces and is 21 inches long.
Mother and daughter are doing very well. The baby is a good eater and is quite strong! I love the faces and sounds she makes. She gets the hiccups a lot which, of course, I recorded. I was sad to leave her but also happy to get home and get some projects going.
My daughter has issued a social media ban but I can post these photos which she shared on facebook.
Luckily I get to go back and see her in two weeks. Thank goodness for facetime!!
I am visiting my daughter who is due to have our first grandchild on Sunday. We had thought she might go early so I have been here over a week so far no baby, but the room is organized, her new little clothes are washed and the house is ready.
I have not done much crafting. Here is a card for a sketch over at stickitdown.blogspot.com
We have had some of the best ultrasound pictures of our soon to be born baby granddaughter! The first ones resembled aliens and nothing baby like but lately we have been astounded by the shots they get. Here are a few of my faves
Still getting layouts done for our soon to be born granddaughter!
I was lucky enough to attend the shower Jen's friends had for her in Phoenix. We had to cancel our shower here because the doctor would not let her fly. I spent the day before helping the grils with shopping, food prep and decorating.
The day of the shower was a beautiful day and over 30 people attended. Jen was showered with blessing and gifts!
I am in a Design Team Group for Canvas Corp Brands which is working on an exciting project this year. We each created a traveling journal which will spend the next year making its way around the country and globe! As we receive a book, we will complete an art journal page. The next month we will receive another book. At the end of the year, we will get our book back completely filled with artwork from my fellow collaborators.
I made my journal! This was a first for me. I cut down mixed media paper to the size and stitched it together. I made a cover from a cereal box! I decorated the cover and completed the first two pages!
These feathers represent our journals taking flight and traveling around the world sharing thoughts and ideas with each other.
My daughter had another ultrasound yesterday and she shared the most wonderful photos! Our little girl was smiling and pursing her lips and I guess it was just amazing to watch her. I hope to see an ultrasound when i got back in a few weeks.
I had some time this morning and got right to work!
For those of you who know me, you know I always considered myself the non artistic twin. My sister got the art and music gene while I got math and science. A forced job layoff just over a year ago resulted in a search to find something to fill my time. I ended up enrolling in a basic painting class through community education. The class was meant to be an introduction to various mediums but the teacher fell short in really providing much direction. On my own, I watched Youtube videos and started creating mixed media canvases and even joined the local art association! I am still trying to find my niche which means experimenting and playing. I was lucky enough to win a box of Colourarte Primary Elelments . I am still not quite sure how to use them but have always been drawn to abstract art. I pushed my fear aside and grabbed a large (16 x 20) canvas and started playing. Now my problem is I don't know what to do next. Add more paint? Add black doodles? Leave it? Which direction is up?
I need to get better photos of the metallic sheen these paints have. They are just beautiful.
It is such fun hanging out with our adult children. This was the case last night when my son and his wife took us out to dinner for my birthday. We enjoyed trying foods at a new restaurant and just hanging out.
We were at the cottage this weekend. My husband and brother in law participate in a cross country ski race. I had a few minutes and completed this. The lake did not look like this now but hopefully, in a few more months it will!
Working on layouts for the baby's album. She is due to arrive April 2nd but we think she might come sooner! When I was at my daughter's a few weeks ago, we got the room ready. She will have this adorable safari theme.
Sometimes I have trouble knowing how to start an art journal page. I get wrapped up in what colors, how to apply it, etc. Every Monday Tracy Weinzapfel does a live Ustream. I decided to stop reinventing the wheel, and basically follow her lead. Tracy had a background of several blues and purple and then drew heart like flowers.
ATC's are a wonderful way to practice painting because it is a smaller size! I have been participating in Grumbacher's ATC swaps. Most of the time there is a theme for the 2.5 x 3.5 cards and it can eb done in any medium.
This month's theme is the 50s. For some reason a record player popped into my head. Here is my card. I used water colors for this.
My daughter is 6 months pregnant and I love photographing her bump! I got out paints and inks and stencils and created the background using two different heart stencils!! . Even used washi tape! Sequins were the finishing touches.
These are wonderful surfaces for paints, mists, and so much more!
I wanted to make a thank you card and used a variety of media products!
I masked stripes using tape. I painted with ColourArte Twinkling H2Os. These shimmery paints are so pretty!
I used my Dreamweaver butterfly stencil and Ranger Texture Paste to create a glorious butterfly. I mixed Colourarte's Vivid Ultra Metallics Dragon Gold in the paste. Once dry I painted the butterfly with Teal Zircon Ultra Metallics and outlined the body and edges with Colourarte's Smokey Diamond. In this close up you can see the wonderful colors and texture!
I am adding this to Simon Says Monday Challenge - Spread Your Wings.
Also adding this to MixedMediaMC - Put a stencil on it.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog! Your comments mean more to me than you can ever know.
